BANKRUPTCY IN ALASKA

Filing a bankruptcy in Alaska is different from filing bankruptcy in any other state. Although the Bankruptcy Code (the law in bankruptcy proceedings) is federal and therefore applies nationwide, each state has slightly different laws and applications. Each state also may have very different procedures within a bankruptcy which can affect the outcome. Therefore, it is important to consult with an attorney who has practiced in Alaska.

The primary difference between states is with respect to "exemptions" - the property you can protect in the bankruptcy. This is a very important question for most people.

The credibility of your attorney may also affect your treatment in court. Are your bankruptcy pleadings done thoroughly and honestly? Is your attorney known for fair play in the bankruptcy court? Do creditors trust your attorney? Each of these factors can be very important to you.
